Pepperoni Pizza Burger

Ingredients:

3 cups marinara sauce (jar)
2 pounds ground chuck
¼ pound ground pepperoni (or chopped)
1 cup Parmesan cheese
1 tbs basil
1 tbs oregano
2 tsp garlic
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper

Vegetable oil for grill
6 slices of provolone cheese, thick
6 Kaiser rolls
Olive oil for rolls

Instructions:

Preheat gas grill to medium-high.

Pour marinara sauce into a small oven proof sauce pot and place on the grill until it is thoroughly heated. Stirring when needed.

In a large mixing bowl, add the ground chuck, pepperoni, Parmesan, basil, oregano, garlic, salt and pepper.

With your hands, mix ingredients until just blended. Shape into 6 patties.

Brush the rack with oil. Place the patties on the rack, cover and cook for 4-5 minutes. Gently flip patties and grill for 4-5 minutes more. Split open kaiser rolls and brush with olive oil. Grill face down just a minute or two, until lightly toasted. Remove from grill until ready to use.

Remove patties from grill and place into the sauce pot of marinara sauce. Place each patty back on the grill and top each with a slice of provolone cheese. Cover until cheese begins to melt (approx 30 seconds)

Place each patty on the bottom of a Kaiser roll and add the top to finish.

2 Tsp – Olive Oil
½ Cup – Onion, Chopped
½ Cup – Green Bell Pepper, Chopped
2 Cloves – Garlic, Minced
1, 6oz Pkg –Stick Pepperoni, Ground Fine
1 1/2 Lb – Ground Sirloin
½ Cup – Italian Bread Crumbs
1 Tbsp – Italian Seasoning
1 Tsp – Salt
1 Tsp – Pepper
Oil for grill
2 Tsp – Butter, melted and browned slightly
6 – Chibotta Rolls, sliced in half
6 Slices – Baby Swiss Cheese
6 Slices – Mozzarella Cheese
1 Cup – Marinara Sauce, heated

 

Instructions

Start coals for cooking. While coals are still flaming, place a small cast iron skillet over fire. Add Olive Oil, Onion, Bell Pepper, and Garlic to iron skillet. Cook until vegetables are just soft, taking care not to burn yourself over open flame. Remove and set aside to cool for handling. In large bowl add vegetables, ground Pepperoni, ground sirloin, bread crumbs, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly and divide in 6 even portions. Flatted each portion to make a patty about ¼â€Â in thickness. Lightly oil burger holder for grill. Add patties and lock holder. When coals are white, add burgers. Cook 12 – 15 minutes then flip burgers and cook an additional 8 – 12 minutes. While burgers are cooking the last 12 minutes, add 2 small aluminum pots to grill. Place Marinara sauce in one, and butter in the other. Heat until butter is melted and slightly browned (about 5 minutes). Immediately brush Rolls with butter and place on grill for about 2 minutes or until slightly browned. Remove rolls and place 1 slice of Baby Swiss on one side and 1 slice of Mozzarella on the other. Remove patties and Marinara from grill. Place 1 patty on bottom portion of roll, top with 2 tablespoon of lightly heated marinara sauce and top portion of roll. Serve Immediately.
