Simply Asian Burger

Ingredients

1 yellow bell pepper
4 green onions
2/3 cup shredded carrots
2/3 cup bean sprouts
1 garlic clove
1/4 cup soy sauce
5 tablespoons clover honey
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon Mirin ( rice cooking wine )
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 pounds ground chuck
1 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoons black pepper
6 ounces Fontina cheese
oil for grill rack, peanut or other high temperature oil
6 regular hamburger buns

 

Instructions

Preheat grill to medium high heat as specified by manufacture. Remove ends of bell pepper, remove core and discard. Thinly slice and pepper making strips the length of its height. Remove ends of onions as necessary, retaining green and white parts. Slice onion lengthwise and each half lengthwise again. Cut onions about the same length as the pepper By hand separate any layers especially in the white parts. Place pepper, onions, carrots and bean sprouts in a bowl. Finely chop garlic In a second bowl mix together chopped garlic, soy sauce, honey, ginger, Mirin wine and mayonnaise. Add 6 tablespoons of mayonnaise sauce to vegetables and lightly toss to mix and refrigerate. Refrigerate remaining mayonnaise sauce until serving. In a bowl lightly mix ground chuck with salt and black pepper compacting the meat as little as possible. Divide ground chuck into six portions Thinly slice the cheese and divide into portions for the middle of each burger. Divide one portion of ground chuck in half and form bottom of burger. Place one portion of cheese in the middle staying away from the edge. Cover patty with second half sealing the edge, working the meat as little as necessary. Assemble remaining five burgers. Coat grill rack with oil. Place patties on oiled area and grill until brown, 5 to 6 minutes. Turn patties over (To a second oiled surface If you have room) and grill until done, 5 to 8 minutes. In the last few minutes of grilling place buns cut side down on the outer edge of rack to toast lightly. When grilling is compete spread a generous portion of the remaining mayonnaise sauce on the bottom half of each hamburger buns. Place patties on bottom buns and top with a generous portion of vegetables. Cover with top bun and serve.
