December Book Club: The Pursuit of Mary Bennet
We’re excited to announce that our December book club pick is Pamela Mingle’s The Pursuit of Mary Bennet. Described as a “fresh take” on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, this love story focuses on awkward middle child Mary Bennet. With nearly all of her sisters married and gone from the household, the story transforms unrefined Mary into an attractive and eligible young woman.
This love story with a touch of scandal is the perfect way to warm up a cold winter night.
Gather your closest friends, open a bottle of Sutter Home Chardonnay, and try author Pamela Mingle’s roasted pork and apples recipe – erfect for New Year’s Day!
Roast Loin of Pork
Ingredients
Garlic, Rosemary, Salt, Pepper
2½ lb. boneless pork loin
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Chop the garlic and mix with salt, pepper and rosemary (fresh or dried). Rub mixture all over pork. Place pork, fat side down, in roasting pan. Cook in oven for 30 minutes. Turn fat side up and roast until thermometer inserted in center registers 155 degrees (about 25 more minutes). Remove from oven and let stand.
Baked Apples
Wash and core large baking apples (I like Romes), leaving skins on. Add butter, brown sugar and nuts into the cavity left by the core. Place in microwave-proof dish, covered with plastic wrap. Cook in the microwave until desired tenderness (3-5 minutes).
Serve together and enjoy this enthralling story with a glass of Chardonnay!
