Bun Roll Please! Here Is the Winner of This Year’s Build a Better Burger Recipe Contest
The official grand prize winner of our Build a Better Burger Recipe Contest is Brooke Lewis-Slamkova with her Luscious Peach & Pork Burger, paired with Sutter Home Sauvignon Blanc.

When we asked Brooke how it felt to be the winner, she said,
“Oh, my gosh. I’m overwhelmed with how excited I am, and my students are going to be so proud of me, and that makes me super happy.”
Like every year, we are also excited by what inspires our contestants to create their homemade burger recipe and wine pairing. So, when we asked Brooke whether she started with the Sutter Home wine first or the burger first, she had the most interesting answer.
She said, “I started with the region first. I’m a micro farmer. My husband runs our three-acre micro farm, and I thought about what my region and what my state has to offer. And we have wonderful pork farmers. We have wonderful peach farmers. We have Vidalia onions that are very famous. And I said, how can I highlight all these things in one burger?”
Then, when we asked Brooke what she felt really helped elevate her burger to grand prize-winning status, without hesitation, she said, “The pork! I feel like pork is completely underutilized. It has minimal impact on even the smallest piece of land, it’s super sustainable and kind to the environment. Most importantly, I always like to highlight our family and friends who are local farmers. We all look out for each other.”

We had one last question for Brooke. What on Earth are you going to do with this $25,000?
“Well, a lot of it is going to go back into our farm. And then we would love to take our entire family to the Czech Republic, to visit my husband’s mother who is getting on in years.”
