Vibe & Vine: Andrew McMahon In the Wilderness

Vibe & Vine: Andrew McMahon In the Wilderness

Multi-talented singer, songwriter, and philanthropist Andrew McMahon dropped by the Sutter Home Vibe & Vine Studio for a down-to-earth interview on making music, surviving the odds, and traveling through Napa Valley—one sip of wine at a time.

McMahon found success with not one, but three different musical endeavors. He was the lead singer and primary songwriter for the bands Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin, and currently performs under the moniker Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. “My first solo full-length record was born out of a desire to start fresh,” he says of his debut solo album.

Fresh starts are close to the heart for Andrew, and music isn’t Andrew’s only passion. In 2005, which feels like decades ago, the artist was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, and after recovering a year later, he was inspired, and founded The Dear Jack Foundation (DJF) in an effort to initiate change and provide a voice for the generations of young adults who have been diagnosed with cancer. The DJF advocates for and supports initiatives that directly benefit adolescents and young adults diagnosed with cancer.

Growing up, McMahon was inspired by legends in the industry. Music icons like Michael Jackson, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Elton John, and even Madonna influenced his pursuit of singing and songwriting. But if he could have a glass of wine with any musician? “Sir Paul McCartney,” he says, “but I’d probably have my jaw on the table!”

Accomplished, altruistic, and big-hearted. Andrew McMahon believes in the healing power of music and science. So does our family. Please join us in toasting Vibe & Vine artist Andrew McMahon for all that he does.
