Tour of California Day 2, Stage 1, Davis to Santa Rosa

February 15th marked the second day of the Tour of California and stage one of the race. The sound of pouring rain started off my day and all I could think about was our team riding from Davis to Santa Rosa in the miserable weather: raining and 48 degrees in Santa Rosa. Bundled up in many layers, I couldn’t imagine riding in the rain for 107.6 miles wearing only a Lycra kit. 

Also on Sunday, our women’s Colavita/Sutter Home team raced in the Women’s Criterium in Santa Rosa. While the men were racing from Davis to Santa Rosa, the women were racing on a course through downtown Santa Rosa. 

This was the first time I saw the women and they were fantastic! One of our riders, Kelly Benjamin, came in 6th despite the fact that her lips were blue because it was so cold.

The men’s team had an impressive performance as well! For Stage 1, Davide Frattini came in 28th with Tyler Wren right behind him at 29th.
