November Book Club: Mrs. Queen Takes the Train

November Book Club: Mrs. Queen Takes the Train

This month, the Sutter Home and HarperCollins book club pick is a special one! We’ve chosen Mrs. Queen Takes the Train by William Kuhn, which takes us on a poignant journey into the life of Britain’s Queen.

Transport yourself away from the cold winter weather with this charming story and a glass of Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon.

While seeing what life is like through the eyes of the Queen, treat yourself like one! Give your guests the royal treatment with this delicious lamb chop recipe just like the one the Queen eats in this novel!

Ingredients

1 garlic clove, pressed
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves, lightly crushed
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary leaves, lightly crushed
1 teaspoons coarse kosher salt
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2-3 1 1/4-inch-thick lamb loin chops

Instructions

Mix first 4 ingredients and olive oil in bowl. Add lamb; turn to coat. Let marinate at room temperature for least 30 minutes and up to 1 hour.  Preheat oven to 400°F. Heat a heavy, ovenproof skillet over high heat. Add lamb; cook until browned, about 3 minutes per side. Transfer skillet to oven and roast lamb chops to desired doneness, about 8-10 minutes for medium-rare. Transfer lamb to platter, cover, and let rest 5 minutes.

Variations

Enjoy this dish in the traditional British form with mint jelly or mint sauce.  If you don’t have any, try boiling some small red potatoes, then toss them in butter and chopped mint leaves. To further replicate the Queens meal, add brussel sprouts and steamed carrots, cooked however you like.

Whether you are enjoying this meal alone or treating your guests, pour yourself a glass of Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon, light a candle, put some flowers on the table, and pretend you are the Queen!
