Build a Better Burger Cook-off 2013: The Audience and the Judges Agree…
What a weekend we had at Sutter Home Winery in the Napa Valley — 10 finalists traveled from all over the country to compete in this year’s Build a Better Burger Cook-off, and boy, did we taste some amazing creations! While every burger was phenomenal in its own way, our panel of judges had the extremely difficult job of picking winners in both the Beef and the Alternative categories. Drumroll, please!
The 2013 Alternative winner was the Sour Apple Pork Burger from Cristen C. Clark of Runnells, Iowa. The audience agreed with the judges, awarding her the $2,500 People’s Choice Award in addition to the $15,000 prize she won from the judges. James McNair exclaimed when trying the burger, “I have only had one bite but I am in Hog Heaven!”
And the winner of the 2013 Beef category… the Chipotle Bacon Maple Jam Burger from Michael Cohen of Los Angeles, California! Michael was awarded a whopping $100,000 for his delicious burger recipe. Just like the audience agreed with the judges in the Alternative category, they agreed in the Beef and awarded Cohen the the $2,500 People’s Choice Award as well.
