Let It Snow

The weather outside can be frightful so it’s time to make your home as warm and cozy as can be! If you haven’t put up holiday decorations yet, here are some quick tips to spread the holiday cheer around your home.
•Hang snowflake ornaments in your windows
•Decorate a small tree and show it off in a window
•Poinsettias make your porch bright and festive on cold, wintry days
•Holiday music will put everyone in a merry mood

Another way to bring the holidays inside is with comfort food! Chicken pot pie, lasagna, and steak & potatoes warm the soul. What’s even better about these is that they are the perfect companions for Sutter Home wines! Looking for quick & easy? Try this simple chicken pot pie recipe:

•1 2/3 cups frozen corn, peas and carrots
•1 medium onion
•1 cup cut-up cooked chicken
•1 can chicken stock
•1/2 cup low-fat buttermilk
•2 tbsp. cornstarch
•Pre-made refrigerated pie crust
Heat oven to 400°F. Grease a 9” pie pan and lay in pre-made pie crust. Cook vegetables, chicken, chicken stock, cornstarch and buttermilk on medium heat then simmer for 10 minutes. Pour into pie pan and cover with second pre-made pie crust. Bake about 30 minutes or until crust golden brown.

Pair with chilled Sutter Home Chardonnay for a perfect dinner by the fire.

The wonderful Christmas song Let It Snow was created by lyricist Sammy Cahn and the composer Jule Styne in 1945. The words and lyrics of Let It Snow reflect the feeling of warmth and security associated with Christmas and also brings in the more modern customs of popping corn! The song Let It Snow was reprised in recent years when used in the Bruce Willis film Die Hard which started with the film's hero travelling to meet his family at Christmas.
