Even if you’ve already made some 2014 resolutions, you can always make more! A great way to make the New Year awesome is to give back. Helping others can be about small deeds or big ones, and you can make it more fun by making your charitable tasks more social!
Get a neighborhood group together
What better way to give back to others than in your own neighborhood? Start a local group to introduce new people, get to know the old ones better, and help each other out!
Begin by getting everyone on your street together for a potluck dinner. Share some wine and talk about the ways you can help each other out. Whether it’s car repairs, afternoon babysitting, driving the elderly to appointments, or giving cooking lessons, the sky’s the limit. You’ll be helping out and sharing your passions—all for the greater good.
Package boxes for people in need
There are many non-profit organizations that provide ongoing support for people in need. Many charities package boxes and non-perishable items for those in the community as well as those needy in other countries. Find a local charity that does this and commit to helping them out.
Gather all your friends together to pitch in. Host a party to put boxes together. Your friends can bring over the necessary supplies and help you take everything to your local charity. Make the gathering festive and fun by adding some snacks and a bottle of Sutter Home wine!
Dedicate one day a month to a community service project
Look in your local paper or community magazines for daylong community service projects in your local area. Dedicating one day a month or even one day a year can make a huge difference to those in need.
Gather your friends around a timely cause, roll up your sleeves, and get involved! This could be fixing up an old house, helping a local public library, walking dogs from the SPCA, or dedicating your time to a soup kitchen. Whatever you choose to do to help out, know that you are making a difference in your community.
