Twisted Rueben Burgers

What a great twist to such a great sandwich. The Pennsylvania Dutch in our family sure love this one.


Twisted Sauce:
1 tablespoon Carraway Seeds
½ cup 1,000 Island Dressing
1 cup Sauerkraut
1/3 cup Sauerkraut Brine
12 ounces Corned Beef, ground or shredded
1 ¼ pounds Ground Beef
½ of a medium Yellow Onion, shredded
1 teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Black Pepper
2 teaspoons Carraway Seeds
3 teaspoons vegetable oil
6 slices of Swiss Cheese
12 thick slices Fresh Rye Bread
1 cup Sauerkraut


Mix 1 tablespoon Carraway Seeds with 1,000 Island Dressing. Set aside. Combine 1 cup Sauerkraut, Brine, Corned Beef, Ground Beef, Onion, Salt, Pepper and 2 teaspoons Carraway Seeds. Mix well and shape into patties. Grease grill with oil. Grill burgers over low heat for 20-30 minutes or 150 degrees in center. Place 1 slice of Swiss Cheese on each burger and grill for an additional 3 minutes. Grill bread until warm. Spread dressing mixture on slices of bread, top with remaining sauerkraut and burger. Serve.
