Tomato Basil and Grilled-Cheeze Burgers

Pairs well with:

Pinot Grigio

You won’t need a bouquet of flowers when you share our Pinot Grigio. This crisp wine with floral aromas is a wonderful way to make an entrance.

I LOVE tomato basil soup and grilled cheese so why not add a juicy burger!

Ingredients:

Sauce for Patties

1 10.75 oz can condensed tomato soup

1 6 oz can tomato paste

½ Tb Worcestershire sauce

½ Tb dried basil

3 Tb brown sugar

Patties

1 lb ground beef

1 lb ground sirloin

½ tsp black pepper

1 tsp salt

1 Tb fresh chopped basil

Grilled-Cheese buns

24 slices rye bread

¾ cup olive oil

12 slices Munster cheese

Mayo topping

¼ cup sour cream

¼ cup mayonnaise

¼ tsp minced garlic

4 Tb cheese croutons

2 large red ripe tomatoes sliced very thin

Instructions:

Preheat grill to medium/high

In a medium bowl… add soup, tomato paste,

Worcestershire sauce, basil and brown sugar.

Whisk until combined, set aside.

In a large bowl… add ground beef, ground

sirloin, pepper, salt, and basil. Mix with

hands until just combined. Do not over mix.

Form into 6 equal balls and pat into patties

about 3 ½ inches around.

Spoon half of the soup mixture evenly into

a 9×13 inch pan. Layer the patties on the

soup mixture. Spoon the remainder of the

soup mixture over each patty evenly. Cover

with foil or a lid and set aside.

Using a 3 inch round biscuit or cookie cutter,

cut out the center of the 24 rye bread slices.

Discard the rest or save for another recipe.

Spread bread circles out on a cookie sheet.

Brush one side of each circle with olive oil.

Next assemble 12 grilled-cheese sandwiches,

using bread circles and Munster cheese. Oil

sides facing out. Trim cheese to fit the circles,

but use all trimmings on sandwiches. Set aside.

Place patties on preheated grill, cover and let cook

8 minutes. Grill will smoke a lot from soup

mixture. Flip patties and cook covered about 6-8

minutes or until medium. Remove burgers and

keep warm under foil.

Place each grilled-cheese sandwich on grill.

Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until

Cheese is melted and bread is toasted to

medium brown. Remove and place back on

cookie sheet.

In small bowl, mix sour cream, mayo, garlic

and croutons until combined.

Assemble each burger with a grilled-cheese

sandwich on bottom, then a burger, next

two slice of tomato, about 1-1/2 Tb of mayo

topping and top with another grilled cheese

sandwich.
