The Lord of the Onion Ring Burgers

We love home-made burgers. We grind our own beef. We make our whole-wheat buns. We also love fried onion rings. One day, we added fried onion rings and Sutter Home wine to our beef burgers and voila! The Lord of the Ring, onion ring is what I mean, and Zinfandel to be swell, that fits a king. So Build a Better Burger with Sutter, and don't be a cheater without a ring.

Ingredients

Special Thyme Spread:
1/4 cup Grey Poupon Classic Dijon
2 tablespoons thyme
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Chitpotle Pepper Sauce
Burgers:
2 pounds ground beef chuck
1/4 cup Sutter Home Zinfandel wine
2 teaspoons garlic salt
1/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
2 teaspoons dried parsley
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Vegetable oil for brushing grill rack
12 pre-fried onion rings, toasted
6 large Kaiser rolls, split, toasted
spinach leaves
6 large ripe tomato slices
Kettle Chips, Sea Salt & Vinegar
Green onions for garnishing

Instructions

In a grill with a cover, prepare a medium hot fire for direct heat cooking. For Special Thyme Spread, combine Grey Poupon, thyme, mayonnaise, and Chitpotle Pepper Sauce in large bowl. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use. For Burgers, combine beef, Sutter Home Zinfandel wine, garlic salt, bread crumbs, parsley, and black pepper. Mix well and shape the mixture into six patties. Brush grill rack with oil. Place beef patties on rack, cover and cook about 4 minutes or until desired doneness. Turn twice. During last 30 seconds, place fried onion rings and rolls (cut side down) on outer edges of grill to toast lightly. To assemble burgers, spread the Special Thyme Spread on rolls. On roll bottom, layer spinach leaves, tomato, beef patty and fried onion rings. Add roll top. Serve when still hot with Kettle Chips. Make 6 servings.

Enjoy these luscious burgers with a glass of Sutter Home wine! I sent one recipe similar to this one but discovered I did not check the type of burger on top. Please ignore the first one. Thank you, Sir James, for giving me a chance to enter this contest and to try out the outstanding Sutter Home wine.
