Instructions

Load charcoal & light grill. While grill is heating place ginger snap cookies (approx 10 cookies) in zip lock bag and crush cookies using a rolling pin. In a small sauce pan place 1/8 cup minced red onion cook until softened. Add in Sauerbraten Mix and ketchup. Let simmer over medium heat until mixture starts to reduce. Move to lower heat and add ¼ c. crushed ginger snap cookies. Whisk until mixed. Remove ¼ cup of the Sauerbraten sauce and set aside to cool. Place cover over remaining sauce in sauce pan and move to warming area of the grill. Mix together 2lbs. ground chuck, 1-1/4 tsp garlic powder, 1/3 tsp. salt, ground black pepper, ¼ cup Sauerbraten sauce, 2 tbsp. finely chopped red onion and 2 tbsp. crushed ginger snap cookies. Use your hands to mix burger ingredients – don’t overwork the burger mixture. Form burger mixture into 6 individual burgers. Place on chilled plate. Place sweet & sour cabbage mixture in small sauce pain & heat through, drain the liquid from cabbage, cover with lid and place on warming rack. Brush the hot grill with olive oil to keep burgers from sticking. Place burgers on medium high heat area of grill. Leave on grill 3 1/2 to 4 minutes per side. Remove burgers and place on warm plate. Brush rolls with olive oil. Place rolls on grill until slightly toasted. Remove rolls and place burgers on rolls. Top with Sauerbraten sauce then add warmed and drained red cabbage. Place top half of roll on burger. Serve immediately.
