11/2 cups chopped yellow onion
1 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons bottled chili sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoons Tabasco hot sauce
1 pound ground chuck
1 pound ground sirloin
2 tablespoons A-1 steak sauce
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1, 8 ounce tub Kaukauna sharp or extra sharp cheddar cheese spread
6 leaves, green leaf lettuce
6 rectangular soft steak rolls
cooking oil for grill rack

Instructions

Preheat grill to highest setting.
For the Caramelized Onion Sauce: In an 8″ non-stick frying pan, saute the onions in oil until golden brown. Remove and place into 6″ mixing bowl. Stir in mayonnaise, chili sauce, mustard, salt and Tabasco. Refrigerate until assembly.
Reduce grill heat to medium-high.
For the patties: Combine chuck, sirloin, A-1, salt and pepper, mixing by hand gently but thoroughly. Divide into six equal patties, shaped to fit rolls.
Brush grill rack with oil. Cook patties 4-6 minutes on each side or until desired degree of doneness is achieved. Remove and keep warm.
Split rolls lengthwise. Place on grill cut side down and brown lightly.
For the Assembly: Spread onion sauce evenly over the six bottom halves. Spread cheese sauce evenly over the six top halves. Place lettuce on bottom halves. Place patties on lettuce. Place top halves to assemble burgers. Insert two toothpicks into burger and cut in half diagonally for presentation.
