Summer Thanks Burger

Assemble all ingredients for the burgers before starting to prepare them. This will mean chopping the onion, cranberries and pecans, mincing the garlic and grating the orange peel. Also, cut the onion rings for the topping.

Ingredients 

Burger:
1 lb. fresh ground turkey
1/2 lb. good quality sausagemeat
1/4 cup sweet onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp. dried sage
1/8 cup dried cranberries, chopped
1/2 tsp. finely grated orange pee
l 2 Tbs. chopped pecans
2 Tbs. yellow cornmeal
Topping:
1 Tbs. butter
1 large sweet onion cut in rings
1 1/2 Tbs. sherry
6 small pita bread pockets (4 1/2 -5"diameter)

Instructions 

Oil grill and set to medium high heat Mix together all the ingredients for the burgers and form into 6 patties. Melt the butter for the topping in a frying pan and start cooking the onions, covered, over medium high heat Grill burgers 5 minutes on first side. Add the sherry to the onions for the topping and continue to cook, uncovered. Flip the burgers and cook for 5 minutes on the other side. Cut open the pita pockets Place a burger in each pita pocket and top with sherried onions.
