Stuffed Meatloaf Burgers
We use this recipe when we have a lot of people to feed, which is often. It can be doubled or tripled. Everyone loves it because it is moist and delicious and no condiments are needed.
1 1/2 lbs-lean ground beef
15-soda crackers, finely crushed
1 tsp- steak seasoning
1/2-onion, chopped fine
6-mushrooms, chopped fine
1/2 lb-bacon, cooked and chopped fine
8 slices-american cheese, break off corners to make round and fit hamburger patties.
Mix first five ingredients together, well. Form into eight thin patties. Mix chopped onion, mushrooms and bacon in bowl. Put one slice of cheese each, on four of the patties. Place large spoonful of onion, mushroom, bacon mixture on cheese, cover mixture with 2nd slice of cheese. Put a meat pattie over top and seal burger top and bottom together. Make sure it is sealed well and nothing is protruding out of burger. Grill burgers at high temp. to sear and seal the exterior. Place on higher rack or turn down flames, after seared, to let cook until meat is done all the way through. Serve on hamburger buns.
Serve this burger with a side of cole slaw and potatoe salad and a bottle of your favorite Sutter Home wine. I prefer Sutter Home White Zin with mine, for the ultimate all American picnic.
