South of the Border Burger

My family thinks this burger tastes like a Mexican Fiesta! Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.


2 pounds ground chuck
2 ounces black olives - chopped
2 ounces cheddar cheese - grated
1/4 cup Sutter Home Zinfandel
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 Haas avocado - mashed
1/2 cup sour cream
1 Tablespoon salsa
Vegetable oil for grill
6 onion rolls - split in half
3 Tablespoons butter
2 7-ounce cans whole green chiles
1/4 cup lightly-salted Kettle chips - crushed


In a bowl, combine ground chuck, black olives, cheddar cheese, Zinfandel, cumin, salt, and pepper. Form into 6 patties. In another bowl, combine avocado, sour cream, and salsa. Refrigerate. Oil grill. Place patties on grill. Cook for 10 minutes on medium-high heat with lid closed. Flip and cook for an additional 10 minutes, or until internal temperature is 160 degrees. Remove patties from grill. Butter split rolls and place split side down on grill until lightly toasted. Remove green chiles from can, rinse, and split so they lie flat. Add crushed chips to refrigerated avocado mixture. Place burgers on rolls. Top with avocado mixture and green chiles.
