San Angelo Taco Burger

My wife, Sandy, loves this tangy but mellow-tasting taco burger. The use of the pita pocket makes your feel like your are making a taco but the taste is out of this world for a burger. You can use condiments (guacamole, mayonnaise, sour cream, mustard, etc) to spread inside the pita pocket before placing the taco burger and adding lettuce, tomato and onions. Guests will be delighted to fix the taco burger to their taste.

1 1/4 cups of crushed corn flakes
1 envelope of Taco Seasoning mix
1 can (10 oz) diced tomatos & green chilis (regular or milder)
2 lbs ground beef (chuck)
1 egg
1/2 cup beef broth
fresh ground pepper
16 pita pockets
2 cups chopped tomatoes
2 cups chopped lettuce
2 cups chopped onions condiments

In a bowl, combine corn flakes, taco mix, can tomatos/green chilis, daah of salt and pepper. Crumble beef over mixture add egg, mix well. Slowly add in beef broth while mixing ingredients. Shape into eight, 1/2 inch patties approximately 5" to 6" in diameter. Cut each patty in half. Cover a cookie sheet with wax paper and place each piece on the cookie sheet. Cover with wax paper or plastic wrap; refrigerate for an hour or longer. Broil, grill or pan-fry burgers until meat is no longer pink. Serve to guest on platter. Prepare your own San Angelo Taco Burger. Suggestion: Spread guacamole on one side and sour cream on the other. Place burger in Pita pocket and top with chopped tomato, lettuce, and onions. Place on paper plate with potato chips, fritos, or tortilla chips and a cool drink.

The satisfying San Angelo Taco Burger is a great alternative to a regular burger. You can be sure it will be a big hit ....... but don't expect any left overs. Enjoy!!
