Rosy, Juicy, Merlot Burgers
I was given a recipe for deluxe meatloaf twenty-seven years ago. I have loved its juicy flavor so much, that I have formed patties from it to grill with success.
2 lbs. ground beef chuck
1/2 cup regular cottage cheese
1/2 cup soft whole wheat bread crumbs
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup Merlot wine
1/4 cup bottled chili sauce
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 1/2 teaspoon chopped green bell pepper
6 whole wheat bakery quality hamburger buns
6 red leaf lettuce leaves
6 slices beefsteak tomatoes
1/4 cup spicey brown mustard
1/4 cup mayonnaise
Oil for grill
Start charcoal grill. In non stick pan, lightly sweat green pepper and chopped onion. Allow to cool. In mixing bowl lightly combine. ground beef chuck, cottage cheese, bread crumbs, 2 beaten eggs,, wine, chili sauce, tomato sauce, salt, ground black pepper, sweated chopped onions, and green pepper. Form beef mixture into six patties. Grill each side on oiled grill to form char marks and then move patties onto the grill that is not over coals. Cover grill with grill top, until patties are desired doneness, barely pink in middle. Lightly grill buns and spread both sides with mayonnaise and then spicey, brown mustard. place lettuce leaf, tomato slice and burger on bun. Cover with other half of bun. Enjoy.
Hope you like these as much as my family does. I use a hamburger press to form the patties evenly.
