Fresh and delightful burgers with a taste of the islands. Perfect for a summer evening. Great paired with the rest of the Sutter Home Chardonnay and a garden salad.
1 16-oz. can pineapple slices, undrained.
1/2 cup red bell pepper,diced
1 tsp fresh ginger root, diced
1 lb ground chuck
1/2 cup green onion slices
1/4 cup plain dry breadcrumbs
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup Sutter Home Chardonnay-divided
1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
6 whole-wheat hamburger buns
Drain pineapple, reserving juice. Set aside. Combine 3 tbsp pineapple juice, bell pepper, ginger root, ground beef, green onion, breadcrumbs, salt, and 1/4 cup wine. Mix with hands and shape into patties. Spray a deep dish with cooking spray and pour a mixture of teriyaki sauce and leftover wine over the patties. Let marinate for at least 1/2 hour. Line grill with aluminum foil and grill until done, turning once. Place a pineapple on top of each patty and serve on toasted buns. No other condiment is necessary. Serves 6
This recipe is adapted from a meatball recipe I use at the holidays that gets rave reviews. Instead of pineapple slices, I use pineapple chunks on toothpicks to spear the meatballs.
