Pepperoni Pizza Burger

In an attempt to compete with my Italian husband's pizza fetish, I developed this recipe. It is a combination of my favorite meal (the backyard burger) and my husband's (pizza).


1 1/2 pound ground sirlion
1 tbsp prepared Italian spice mix
1/4 cup Sutter Home Red Wine
6 ciabatta rolls
1 8oz. can prepared pizza sauce
1 pkg. sliced pepperoni
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella


1. Heat grill to high heat. 2. While grill is heating, mix together first 3 ingredients. 3. Shape mixed ingredients into 6 burger patties. 4. Place patties onto grill and sear each side of patty. 5. Reduce grill heat to medium and cook till desired temperature (140 F - rare, 160 F - medium). 6. While burgers are grilling, split 6 ciabatta rolls in half, and flatten each half slightly. 7. Place cut side of each roll up on a cookie sheet. 8. Divide and spread pizza sauce evenly over all 12 halves. 9. Distribute sliced pepperoni over all 12 halves. 10. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly over 12 roll halves. 11. When burgers have reached desired temperature, remove and keep warm. 12. Increase temperature of grill to high and place cookie sheet with rolls directly on grill. 13. Close grill until cheese is melted. 14. Remove rolls from grill. 15. Place each burger patty on the bottom half of ciabatta rolls. 16. Place other half of ciabatta roll on each burger. 17. Serve and Enjoy!
