RECIPES: Recipe Details
In honor of my mother, who was a single mom with 6 kids, I enter my "Mama Burger" recipe for your judgement. Mama burgers are a hearty beef burger prepared the old school way, just how mama liked them juicy and full of chunks of colorful green bell peppers, red onions, and spices. I hope you enjoy them as much as my siblings and I did growing up.
1 pound of ground beef (80/20)
1 pound of ground chuck (80/20)
1/3 cup of Sutter Home red wine
1 cup of plain bread crumbs
2 eggs, beaten
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
1 teaspoon of onion salt
1/2 tablespoon of ground pepper
1/2 tablespoon of salt
1 large green pepper cut up into chunks
1 large red onion cut up into chunks
Sliced deli American cheese
On Fresh bakery rolls
Mix beef, chuck, wine, bread crumbs, eggs, garlic powder, onion salt, ground pepper, salt, green pepper, and red onion together in large bowl. Form mixture into tennis sized balls. Place on grill and slightly push down burger with spatula. Grill for 4-5 minutes on each side on medium high heat. Slice fresh bakery roll. Spread inside of bun with a light coat of mayonaise and place a piece of iceberg lettuce over mayonaise on top part of bun. Place burger in between bun halves and top burger with a piece of good ole American deli cheese.
Enjoy! When my mom passed away last November, my brothers and sister and I all met up in AZ to take care of my mom's belongings. She had a ton of pictures of her kids, and her grandkids. One night as my siblings went through them all, I made mama burgers to bring back great memories of how my mom kept our family together and how she loved to cook for her large family. Submitted with love. Thank you!
