Greek Burger

Pairs well with:

Merlot

Get cozy and get pouring. Our Merlot is the wine for long weekends and lengthy chats.

Although my husband and I now live on the East Coast, we grew up in Western Nebraska. Western Nebraska has many people of Greek descent and we grew up eating gyros every time we got the chance. That was what inspired me to create the Greek Burger.

Ingredients:

8 oz. Greek yogurt
1/2 English cucumber, peeled and diced
1/2 T. lemon juice
1/2 T. dried oregano
1/2 t. salt
2 1/2 lbs. hamburger
1/2 T. McCormick Montreal Steak grill seasoning
1/2 t. chili powder
1/2 T. dried oregano
1 t. fresh ground pepper
1 t. garlic powder
1 t. salt
3 T. extra-virgin olive oil
6 pocketless pitas
1 red onion, sliced
2 tomatoes, sliced
4 romaine lettuce leaves, chopped

Instructions:

Make yogurt sauce:

Mix yogurt, cucumber, lemon juice, oregano and salt together. Cover and set aside.

Make burgers:

Place ground beef in a large bowl and add grill seasoning, chili powder, oregano, pepper, garlic powder and salt. Shape into 6 equal, oval-shaped patties and grill on medium-high heat for 5-6 minutes on each side.

While burgers are grilling, brush pitas on each side with olive oil and place on grill for 2 minutes, each side (just let the edges get crispy, pitas should still be soft).

Spread cucumber sauce into each pita, followed by a burger. Garnish with sliced onion, tomato and lettuce.
