Ingredients

2 pounds ground sirloin
1 Tablespoon Steak seasoning
1/2-1 c fresh or canned bread crumbs,plain
1/2 c hot tap water
1 1/2 cups Sutter Home wine, a good red one on the sweet side
3 large white onions sliced thickly
1 lb mushrooms such as shiitake, sliced thickly
2 T butter
8 slices smoked cheddar cheese (sliced thick!)
1 1/2 c barbeque sauce,
8 large rolls, sliced in half

 

Instructions

Start grill! On a large cookie sheet set up all buns.If you like them heated, warm up on the grill about 5 minutes before burgers are done. 1. In a large bowl, mix sirloin, MS seasoning, bread crumbs,(start with 1/2 c, if looks too wet, add a bit more), water & 1/2 c wine. Mix with hands,until mixed well. Shape into 8 1/4 pound burgers on a cookie sheet. 2.In a grill safe pan, or using aluminum foil to make a large packet, add onion, mushrooms, butter & remaining wine. 3. Move on out to the grill! Place your burgers on grill, and place onions & mushrooms on grill too. These burgers can take 10-20 minutes per side* depending on how done you prefer them. 4.When burgers are about a minute from being done, add cheese. Take burgers & onion mixture off grill, and go inside to set up burgers. 5.Place about 3 T bbq sauce on bottom bun,place burger on top. Add about 1/4 c of onion and repeat until all 8 are done. Serve on large platter or leave on cookie sheet.
