Cherry Reuben Essence Burger

Pairs well with:

Cabernet Sauvignon

This rich red easily complements your homemade chicken dishes, red meats, game, and mildly seasoned pastas.

I grew up in a poor area of Milwaukee, WI, but we had rich ethnic diversity, German, Polish, Irish and Italian neighbors. I am mostly Polish and German with a hint of Irish.

Although poor, we always ate well. Our diet was a dichotomy, great-tasting but not very good for you, full of fat! We ate a lot of beef, pork and variations to such. As a child, I always snuck my veggies to the dog under our kitchen table during dinner!

My burger is a testament to the sweet and sour taste combination of my German heritage. And, surprise, surprise, contains healthful veggies! Yes, I have grown up.

2 T Worchestershire sauce
1 T Grey Poupon prepared mustard
1/4 cup chili sauce
1/4 cup sweet pickle relish

6 slices mild baby Swiss cheese
6 salted rye or pumpernickel buns

Cherry Cream Cheese Ingredients:
8 oz cream cheese
1/2 can of a 15 oz. can of dark sweet cherries (in heavy syrup)

Rough Cut Slaw Ingredients:
1/3 head of cabbage
2 large carrots
1/2 medium Vidalia onion
3 T fresh lemon juice
3 T vinegar
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 t salt

Instructions:

Directions:

Mix first 11 burger ingredients (up to Kitchen Bouquet) together in a large bowl by hand until blended. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and place in refrigerator while preparing Cherry Cream Cheese.

Place cream cheese on a flat plate. Pour ½ of canned cherries onto it and mash with a fork until the cream cheese and cherry mixtures is well blended. Set aside.

Prepare Rough Cut Slaw by slicing cabbage, carrots and onions separately on a cutting board until each ingredient is roughly shredded. Place in a medium bowl and add remaining slaw ingredients. Toss lightly, cover with plastic wrap and place in refrigerator to chill while preparing the burgers.

Remove burger ingredients from refrigerator and form 6 patties. Rub Kitchen Bouquet on both sides of each pattie. Place on warm grill rubbed with olive oil so patties don’t stick. Grill for 4 to 5 minutes on each side depending on personal desired wellness. Place 1 slice of cheese on each burger until melted. Slide burgers to warming area while toasting buns.

Brush both sides of each bun with olive oil. Toast on grill 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Remove from grill. Spread Cherry Cream Cheese on top half of each bun. Place burger on bottom half and top with Rough Slaw, then place top 1/2 of bun on top. Voila, enjoy your Cherry Reuben Essence Burger!
