Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/2 pound Italian sausage, casing discarded
½ cup Homemade style Pizza Sauce
2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
4 tablespoons Parmesan cheese
12 slices Mozzarella cheese
Vegetable oil, for brushing the grill rack
6 Kaiser Rolls, split
¼ cup  Homemade style Pizza sauce, slightly warm
1 teaspoon Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Prepare a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill with a cover, or preheat a gas grill to medium-high. To make the patties: Combine the beef, pork, pizza sauce, basil, salt, garlic, parsley, and Parmesan cheese in a large bowl. Mix until ingredients are combined. Divide the mixture into 12 equal portions and form the portions into patties to fit the rolls. Place 2 slices of Mozzarella cheese on one of the patties, take another patty, and place on top so the cheese is sandwiched between the two patties. Repeat this process six times. Press gently to form one patty. Brush the grill rack with oil. Place the patties on the rack, cover, and grill until browned on the bottoms, 4 to 5 minutes. Turn the patties and continue grilling another five minutes or until both patties’ internal temperature reaches 155 degrees Fahrenheit. Warm the 1/4 cup pizza sauce in a small saucepan over low heat until slightly warm. Continue stirring the sauce so it will not burn. Carefully place the rolls cut side down, on the outer edges of the rack to toast lightly. To assemble the burgers, place bottom roll on a plate. Put cooked burger on bottom roll, place about 1 ½ tablespoons of the warm pizza sauce over the patty. Sprinkle ¼ teaspoon of Parmesan cheese on the pizza sauce. Add the roll tops and serve. Makes 6 burgers
