Cheesey Turkey Burgers
Turkey's wholesomeness is not just for Thanksgiving anymore! These burgers will have the kids clamoring for more!
2 lb ground turkey
1/2 cup white sweet diced onions
2 tbs. Sutter Home Chardonnay
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 whole roasted red peppers, halved (I use the ones from the jar...) 8 slices ounces mozzarella cheese
I like to wipe my grill with a little bit of extra virgin olive oil but you could use non stick cooking spray before firing it up. Mix turkey, onion,wine, vinegar, oregano, salt and black pepper in a bowl until just combined. Form into patties. I like to sear the patties a little on each side and then turn the heat down and cook them for about 4 minutes on each side, turning gingerly. On the final flip you top them with the cheese and peppers and cook just until the cheese starts to melt -- don't over cook.
I like to use whole wheat buns that I have lightly grilled but any hamburger or Kaiser roll will do. The usual condiments of ketchup and mustard are fine but I prefer just the garden fresh taste of a little leafy lettuce, tomato and mayonaise. And of course you still have to enjoy the rest of the chardonnay!
