Black Beauty Burger

A deliciously different twist for a burger! I truly do not care for black olives but absolutely LOVE this combination. The ultimate secret is to butter your bun...We utilize the hamburger ground at our local butcher shop. This does make a tremendous difference in taste, but I am certain "regular" ground beef will do just fine!


1/3 lb. regular ground beef
Pinch of salt
Pinch of fresh ground pepper
1/4 cup diced yellow onion
1 soft kaiser roll
1/4 cup sliced black olives
2-3 T.(depending on taste) sour cream
1 slice cheddar or american cheese
3 T. melted butter
salt and pepper to taste


Preheat griddle to 375 degrees. Form ground beef into round patty shape and season with salt and pepper. Grill untill desired temperature is achieved. Prior to taking off the griddle, place cheese atop burger and allow to melt during the final cooking stage. Meanwhile, arrange diced onion and 2T. of the butter on griddle next to burger; grill untill golden brown.In addition, butter both sides of sliced kaiser roll and place on griddle until light brown and slightly crisp. When bun is complete, place sour cream on bottom of bun and top with sliced black olives. Grill in pan until desired temperature/doneness is achieved. Prior to serving, arrange diced onions on top of or below burger and serve warm.


I currently own a tavern and grill known for our burgers throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. My "bar burger" is to die for and people drive from near and far to eat with us. Now that secret recipe I am not willing to part with...just yet. Do not substitute ground sirloin or chuck for standard ground beef. The additional flavor enhances this recipe. Enjoy!
