BBQ & Cheese Filled Burgers

Ingredients 

1/4 c dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
1 Tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoom Worstershire Sauce
2 pounds 85% lean Ground Beef
6 Thick Slices Cheddar Cheese
1/4 cup butter, melted
6 large onion (Kaiser Style) Buns
1 red onion, sliced thin

Instructions 

Combine all seasonings with the ground beef in large mixing bowl - cover and refrigerate 1 hour. Preheat grill to medium high temperature. Form refrigerated patties into 12 "flat" patties. Place 1 slice of cheese onto the center of 6 patties. Top each with another patty and pinch edges together to form sealed "pockets". Grill 8 minutes on each side. During the last 8 minutes brush the insides of the onion buns with melted butter and "grill" to toast. Place a cooked bun onto each and top with a thin slice of red onion.

Comments 

The ketchup and flavorings are in the burgers - including the salt and pepper. This lets the flavor cook in thoroughly. Add additional ketchup, mustard, mayo or lettuce and tomato if you wish. - These are all optional to a great burger experience.
